Since the new pope is a member of the Society of Jesus (aka the Jesuits) there has been a lot of interest in the order. I just read this Times article about the Jesuits and America magazine (the Jesuit weekly). The reporter sat down with the editor Father Malone SJ and they had a discussion about the religious order and about his own faith. In the article, Father Malone says two things I really like, “I came to feel that change, real change, only happens through the action of grace, a radical movement of the heart,” and “With many of the world’s most intractable problems a kind of radical love and forgiveness is the only solution.” Those quotes have a point. People need to care about the world’s problems and not be so indifferent about them.
